Nellithota Forest Retreat

The Western Ghats of Uttara Kannada district are world-renowned for their biodiversity and rich natural heritage. Nellithota, the forest home of Savitri and P.P. Hegde, offers the beauty of the this mountain region with traditional Indian hospitality. The family has been farming here, near the village of Mathighatta, for generations. Their homestead features a plentiful garden and orchards, where visitors can learn hands-on about organic agroforestry or simply sit back and enjoy. The surrounding jungle contains natural and cultural treasures accessible through treks of various lengths; but innumerable varieties of birds, plants and wildlife are literally just at the back door. 

Visitors to Nellithota will have the rare experience of sampling fresh, local cuisine, exploring undiscovered stretches of jungle, and observing everyday agricultural life in the malnad region. Nellithota is an ideal place for singles, families, or groups. Getaways may be quiet and peaceful or action-oriented, based on the visitors’ preferences. The Hedge family enjoys sharing their home and their region’s natural wealth with guests, and always make them feel welcome with spontaneity, warmth, and humour. Kannada, or a little English or Hindi work here – but language is not the important thing as you will see!
